This is an educational handout to explain how things really work.  You won’t see this on the evening news or taught in government schools.

-We are told that government is to care for us and provide jobs and run the economy.

-But it is supposed to be simply a referee, not a player.

-The role of government is to protect our rights, not to provide our every need.

-If the government gives to me, it has to take from another and violate their rights.

-In simple democracies, 51% of the people can vote to steal from the 49%.  This is why we were founded as a Republic, supposedly restrained by a Constitution to prevent mob rule by the majority and protect each individual.

-The Constitution was designed to limit government power, but now every excuse is made to ignore it and expand government power, and extract more wealth from us.

-We are told we need to give up our money and freedom to be safe, but we end up losing both our freedom and our safety.  Programs often are for show only to make us feel safe.

-Both parties want our money and freedom, but make it appear as though they are different.  They promise change, but the welfare and warfare continue.

-Most people vote the party line even if it damages the country – they just let the party tell them who to vote for.  So instead of voting for what’s right, most just follow along.  Some avoid voting for good candidates they say are unelectable – self-fulfilling prophecy.

-The major parties have ways to make sure candidates are selected who will keep big spending going, and who won’t change anything of significance.

-The media also choose to ignore or marginalize candidates who are for less government.

-Government takes money from us in ways most don’t know about.

-When government can’t take enough through taxation, they resort to borrowing, or having the money printed by the Federal Reserve (The Fed), the private central bank.

-When more dollars are created, each dollar becomes worth less, so it takes more to buy.

-This is why prices are continually going up, so our purchasing power is stolen.

-Prices should actually be going down, due to increased efficiency and productivity.  We should be able to work less, but as soon as we get ahead, the extra is taken.

-Those in charge do leave us crumbs, or give us handouts to keep us happy.

-Not only does the Fed steal to fund the U.S. government, but it funnels money to prop up banks or businesses who took too much risk, or spent too much, including foreign banks.

-We are talking tens of trillions of dollars handed out – more than Congress spends.

-As more and more bailouts are needed, dollars will be created at an increasing rate, and hyperinflation will result, making money worthless.

-A dollar from 1913 when the Fed (private bank) was created is now worth about 2 cents.

-In addition, the Fed is keeping interest rates very low to stimulate the economy, but that encourages debt since interest on loans is cheap.  The excess borrowing contributed to the housing bubble and collapse.  Low interest rates also mean less saving, because of poor earnings on savings accounts.

-The Fed creates bubbles with easy access to money, and then when the bubbles burst, as with housing, they prolong the recession by throwing money around to keep those who overspent from going bankrupt.  Debt must be liquidated before the economy can recover.

-Businesses will take excessive risk if they know they will be bailed out (moral hazard).

-Because states and counties cannot print their own money (actually have to follow a budget), they look to the federal government for grants and funding which is supposedly unlimited.  With strings attached to the handouts, the feds get more control.

-There is no free money.  Money taken from the economy for government programs means less available for jobs.  Create few non-productive jobs and lose more real ones.

-You cannot increase the wealth of the nation by giving more money to non-producers.

- Because so much government money is thrown at certain areas like healthcare and education, prices go up much higher than inflation.  Then fewer people can afford them, so government spends even more to help alleviate the problem they caused.

-Charity once did a much better job of taking care of the poor.  Now hundreds of billions are wasted on government programs like Medicare through fraud.

-The war on drugs, like the prohibition on alcohol, has been a huge failure.  It has resulted in more crime both here and in Mexico.

-Government should only care if harm is done to another, not someone smoking a joint in their living room.  Harming oneself, as in overeating, should not be criminal.

-There is big money to be made in the war on drugs: more police, lawyers, judges, prisons, etc.  We’ve spent a trillion dollars so far, with little effect on drug supply or use, and drugs have become more potent and dangerous.

-Our country’s founders tried to limit our war-making by requiring a declaration of war by Congress.  We no longer follow the intent of that rule.  Undeclared wars last longer.

-Government policies contribute to many of our national security problems.

-We are told that Iran is a threat, but actually they have shown great restraint, considering what has been done to them.  We’ve been told since the 70’s they are about to nuke us.

-Leaders on both sides use threats to rally the people behind them – false patriotism.

-Our CIA helped overthrow an elected Iranian leader in 1953 (Operation Ajax) so the British could get their oil.  Our CIA then trained their secret police, SAVAK, to brutalize the people.  They revolted in 1979, taking our hostages and installed religious leaders.

-We then supported Saddam Hussein when he invaded Iran, including materials for weapons of mass destruction (WMD).  He used chemical weapons against Iran, killing up to 100,000.  So he thought he had our support when he invaded Kuwait, but we turned against him.

-A PR firm was used to create propaganda against Saddam, including the fabricated story that Iraqi soldiers were throwing Kuwaiti babies out of incubators.

-We built bases on the Arabian peninsula, and destroyed Iraq with bombs, killing thousands of civilians, because we said we had to ensure the flow of oil.

- We imposed sanctions which Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said was worth it, even though it resulted in at least 500,000 Iraqi children dying.

-The Golden Rule says do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  We wouldn’t tolerate another country treating us as we treated these countries.  We would retaliate.  We won’t let another country build bases on our soil.  We would consider sanctions on us an act of war and would retaliate.

-So not surprisingly, on 9/11 there was retaliation by men from Saudi Arabia.  The CIA calls it blowback - if you cause harm to other countries, you can expect them to react, as we would.

-And so we reacted to 9/11, and initially went after al Qaeda.   But within a few years we went to war with Iraq, even though it had nothing to do with 9/11.  We had hoped to go back to war with them for years, but needed the anger from 9/11 to get support.

-Again, propaganda was created from doubtful sources, including an Iraqi engineer who lied about Iraq having WMD.  No WMD found, but we bombed anyway.

-The long-term costs of the Iraq war should be 4 trillion dollars after lifetime care of the wounded.  Thousands of cases of head trauma and debilitation from roadside bombs.

-Osama bin Laden is dead, but we are still in Afghanistan.  Bin Laden said in 2004 they wanted us over there to bankrupt us, and we are took the bait.  Just as Osama bankrupted the Soviets in Afghanistan in the 1980’s with our help.

-Yes, Osama bin Laden was once our guy, too.  Many times we support a leader or dictator only to have them later become our enemy.

-We provide defense for Europe and Japan so they can waste money on more social programs.  Essentially a form of welfare.

-We give aid to countries, with strings attached, so we can control them, such as Israel.  We should let them defend themselves as they wish.

-Foreign aid is usually wasted by rulers or used against the people. “Foreign aid is taken from the poor people in rich countries, and given to the rich people in poor countries.”

-Eisenhower warned against the military-industrial complex, to which we give trillions of dollars.  Congress spends money on things the military doesn’t even want.

-Attempts to audit the military have failed.  Billions/trillions are lost and wasted.

-We spend on defense 5X times more than the next country on the list.  When is it enough?  And much of it is spent on the type of military no longer needed.

-Leaders use fear to get us to give up our freedom and privacy.  Government agencies are spying on our internet and phone calls.  We are groped in the airports.  And now we can be arrested and held indefinitely without a trial if we’re suspected of being a bad guy.

-Drones will soon be looking through our windows.  Research NDAA.

-The terrorists wanted us to be afraid and give up our money and our freedoms and we are letting them win.  We expect bravery from troops, but not from ourselves.

-Admiral Mullen said our debt is our biggest threat.  The interest on the debt is now as much as we spend on defense, and it is growing.

-Politicians use fear to get us to support their programs and wars.  But our biggest fear should be the collapse to come from the unlimited spending.

-Spending increases are snowballing.  Many say we cannot cut because we will lose jobs or benefits, but they will end anyway.  Mathematically, there is no way they will continue.

-Social security funds are immediately spent, so youngsters must pay current beneficiaries.  And there aren’t enough youngsters to pay for baby boomers.

-Those calling for limits are called names (kook, nutcase, extremist) and told they are haters.   Less education $ : hate children, less foreign aid $: hate Israel, less healthcare $: hate old people, bring troops home:  hate the troops and America.  So nothing gets cut.

-When politicians talk about cuts, they aren’t really cuts.  Each year the budget calls for automatic increases of say, 10% over the last year.  So if it INCREASES 9% more than the year before, we are told it’s a cut, because it did not increase as much as originally planned.  So even “conservatives” grow government, despite talk of cuts.

-The other trick is to propose a balanced budget in 10 or 20 years – never happens.

-The longer we support the spending, the harder the crash will be.

-Join your neighborhood group that demands more freedom and limited government.

-Do not count on either of the major parties – they are both in bed with special interests that want your money and your freedom.

Quotes:

-Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action. (George Washington)

-It is the duty of the patriot to protect his country from its government. (Thomas Paine)

-Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism. (George Washington)

-When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the Republic.  (Benjamin Franklin)

-A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.  (Thomas Jefferson)

-A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.  (Author Unknown)

-If you can’t answer a man’s arguments, all is not lost.  You can still call him vile names.
(Elbert Hubbard)

-We will bankrupt ourselves in the vain search for absolute security.(Dwight Eisenhower)

-The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. (H. L. Mencken)

- The average man does not want to be free. He simply wants to be safe. (H.L. Mencken)

-It is a universal truth that the loss of liberty at home is to be charged to the provisions against danger, real or pretended, from abroad.  (James Madison)

-Preventive war is like committing suicide out of fear of death. (Otto von Bismarck)

- Peace, commerce and honest friendship with all nations; entangling alliances with none.  (Thomas Jefferson)

-Power is usurped from the people, first by implementing fear, then it is maintained by slandering as 'unpatriotic' those who refuse submission.  (Ramman Kenoun)

-The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.
(Thomas Jefferson)

-If the American People allow private banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the People of all their Property until their Children will wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered.(Thomas Jefferson)

-Love your enemies.  Blessed are the peacemakers.  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  (Jesus Christ)

-Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters. (Daniel Webster)

- Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.  It works the same in any country. (Goering at the Nuremberg Trials)
